1 Peter 4:9 – betydelse

1 Peter 4:9 2026-10-17

Varen gästvänliga mot varandra utan knot,

Vad det betyder

Peter asks his readers to open their homes and lives to one another, and to do it without complaining. The point is not only the act of hospitality but the spirit behind it: giving freely, not resentfully, as if the guest were a burden. In the early church, travelling believers relied on the hospitality of others, so this was a practical, shared obligation, and the word 'grumbling' names the quiet resentment that can spoil a kind deed.

För idag

Most of us know the difference between inviting people over because we want to and doing it because we feel we must. Think of hosting Midsommar with a tired, stressed body, or letting a friend stay on the soffa during a move while silently counting the days. Hospitality today often gets squeezed between work, busy calendars, and the pressure to make everything look effortless on Instagram. This verse speaks to that tension honestly: it does not demand a perfect dinner or a spotless flat, only that we stop wrapping our kindness in complaints. It also quietly asks whether we allow ourselves to receive help without guilt, since hospitality runs both ways.
