Matthew 25:38 – betydning

Matthew 25:38 2026-10-10

Når så vi dig fremmed og tok imot dig, eller naken og klædde dig?

Hva det betyr

Matthew 25:38 is spoken by the righteous in Jesus' parable of the sheep and the goats. They are genuinely puzzled: they cannot remember ever seeing the king as a stranger or naked, and so never caring for him. The verse shows that they had been caring for people in need all along, without realizing that those people were, in a sense, the king himself. The point is that compassion shown to the vulnerable is not something done to a distant authority but something that counts as done to Christ.

For i dag

Think of the person at the bus stop who asks for a ride to a shelter, the neighbour who has just moved to Oslo and knows no one, or the refugee sleeping in a tent by a train station in Bergen. Most of us walk past such people while scrolling our phones, telling ourselves we will help when we have more time or money. The verse sits uncomfortably with that. It also asks something gentle of us: to notice that the stranger in front of us is not an abstraction in a news feed but a person whose dignity is at stake. You do not need a grand gesture; a warm meal, a spare jacket, or a real conversation can be enough.

Til å ta med

I dag kan jeg kanskje legge fra meg telefonen en stund og legge merke til den ene personen som trenger noe lite, men konkret, fra meg.
