Isaiah 40:2: significato
Isaiah 40:2 2026-10-15
Cosa significa
Isaiah 40:2 is a message of consolation sent to Jerusalem, written for a people who had suffered exile and hardship. The prophet tells them to be spoken to tenderly: their period of forced labor and punishment is over, their guilt has been forgiven, and they have received from God's hand a punishment that they feel is 'double' for their sins. The word 'double' does not mean a doubled penalty; it signals that the suffering has been fully paid and that the debt is closed, a sense of completeness rather than excess.
Per oggi
Many people today carry a sense of being stuck in a long penance: a career setback that keeps being held against them, a mistake online that never seems to fade, or a family wound that is replayed every holiday. This verse speaks to the exhausting feeling that the punishment never ends. It invites us to notice the difference between accountability and being condemned forever. It does not deny that harm happened, but it says that a season of struggle can come to a real close, and that we are allowed to stop living as if we are still serving a sentence.
