Isaiah 40:2 – merkitys
Isaiah 40:2 2026-10-15
"Puhukaa suloisesti Jerusalemille ja julistakaa sille, että sen vaivanaika on päättynyt, että sen velka on sovitettu, sillä se on saanut Herran kädestä kaksinkertaisesti kaikista synneistänsä."
Mitä se tarkoittaa
Isaiah 40:2 is a message of consolation sent to Jerusalem, which had endured a long period of hardship and punishment. The speaker is told to speak tenderly to the city and announce that its time of forced service and suffering is over, that its guilt has been pardoned, and that it has already received from God's hand a punishment that matches its wrongs, a double portion. The point is not that the suffering was excessive, but that the debt has been settled and the relationship can begin again.
Tälle päivälle
Many people carry a sense that they have already paid for their mistakes many times over: a failed business, a broken marriage, years of self-blame after a bad decision, or a burnout that came from pushing too hard for too long. The verse speaks to that exhausted feeling of never being finished with the consequences. It does not deny that the hard things happened, and it does not pretend the past was fine. But it offers a different way of seeing the story, where the hardship is recognized as having an end and the person is allowed to stop being defined by it, even when the outside world, or their own inner critic, keeps score.

Maybe the account you keep reopening in your own head has already been settled, and you can start treating yourself as someone whose suffering has finally come to an end.
