Proverbs 15:17 – Bedeutung

Proverbs 15:17 2026-10-20

Besser ein Gericht Kraut mit Liebe, als ein gemästeter Ochse mit Haß!

Was es bedeutet

Proverbs 15:17 says that a simple meal eaten where there is love is better than a rich feast in a home filled with hostility. The point is not that poverty is good, but that the quality of relationships matters more than the quality of the food on the table. A fattened calf stands for lavish hospitality and abundance, while herbs stand for the plainest possible fare; the verse ranks the warmth of the people gathered above the luxury of what they eat.

Für heute

Many people today know this from both sides: a tense family dinner in a fancy restaurant where nobody speaks, or a cheap takeaway shared on a sofa with a friend who really listens. In a culture of status meals, dinner parties that look perfect on Instagram, and money spent to impress, the verse asks an uncomfortable question about what we are actually buying. It also speaks to people who cannot afford much: a modest table can be rich if the people at it are not at war with each other. It does not excuse hard relationships, though. Love here is something you practice, not just feel, and hatred usually grows from unspoken resentments that a nice setting cannot cover.

Zum Mitnehmen

Vielleicht lohnt es sich heute, weniger auf das Essen selbst zu achten und mehr darauf, wer am Tisch sitzt und wie ehrlich und freundlich wir miteinander umgehen.
