What it means

God is speaking to Cyrus, a Persian king who didn't worship or even know the God of Israel. Yet God identifies him by name and gives him a role — releasing the Israelites from captivity — precisely because of what God wanted to accomplish for a particular people. The point is striking: a person can be used for a meaningful purpose without being aware of the source or significance of what they're doing.

Most of us live in a world where we want credit, clarity, and a sense of being chosen for the roles we play.
